Why a virtual number for Amazon?

Amazon texts a one-time password to your phone number when you create an account and whenever a login looks unusual to it. If you want separate accounts on marketplaces like Amazon.com, Amazon.de or Amazon.co.jp, want to keep shopping apart from a seller account, or don't want your real number attached to a profile that will sit there for years, you need a number you don't otherwise use. Rent a real single-use number from Vernum, enter it at Amazon's phone step, and the code lands straight in your Vernum dashboard.

The number is reserved only for your activation; once the code arrives and you finish verifying, it is released. If the timer runs out before a code shows up, the coins you spent go back to your balance automatically, and you can retry with another country right away.

Get your code in three steps

1

Pick a country and service

Pick the Amazon service in the dashboard; countries are sorted by measured success rate.

2

Get your number instantly

A real number is assigned to you, ready to receive the code.

3

See the code in your dashboard

Enter the number at Amazon's phone step; the incoming one-time password appears instantly in your dashboard and as a notification.

Step by step: verifying Amazon with a virtual number

Amazon's sign-up form asks for a mobile number or email and sends a one-time password (OTP) to the number you enter; which Amazon marketplace you register on also shapes the flow.

  1. In the Vernum dashboard, type Amazon into the search box; countries are ordered by measured success rate for this service. Pick a country that fits the Amazon marketplace you will use, near the top of the list, and rent the number.
  2. The countdown starts on the number card; keep your Amazon tab ready. If no code arrives before the timer ends, the coins are refunded automatically and you can try another country.
  3. On Amazon's Create account page, fill in your name, email, and password; in the mobile number field, choose the country code from the dropdown to match the number you rented and paste the number.
  4. When you click Continue, Amazon sends an OTP to the number; switch to the Vernum dashboard, where the code appears on the number card, and if you use the Android app you get a notification too.
  5. Enter the OTP in Amazon's field and create the account; the number is released on Vernum and, being single-use, cannot be reused for another Amazon account.
  6. After the account is created, go to Your Account > Login & security, check that your email address is verified, and add an authenticator app for two-step verification.

Which country's number works best?

Amazon runs a separate marketplace per country, and each one accepts numbers from its own region more readily, so a number from the region of the marketplace you're joining is usually a sensible first pick. A fixed ranking would be misleading, because delivery success varies by operator and changes over time. Vernum sorts the country list by measured success for the Amazon service: start at the top, and if no code arrives, take the refund and move one row down.

Common mistakes in Amazon verification

Making the number your only login

If you sign up to Amazon with just a phone number, that number becomes your login name. Always add an email address at sign-up; once the virtual number is released, you sign in with email.

Wrong Amazon marketplace

amazon.com, amazon.de, and amazon.co.uk use separate sign-up flows. Register on the marketplace you will shop on and pick the number's country to match.

Not picking the country code from the dropdown

In Amazon's phone field the country code is a separate dropdown. Pasting the number with its prefix without changing the dropdown means no OTP is sent.

Resending before the code arrives

Every time you press Resend, the previous OTP becomes invalid. Watch the number card in the dashboard and use the first code that arrives.

Virtual number or your own number?

On Amazon the phone number can be both your login name and a security channel, so decide based on how often you shop and whether you will keep payment details on file.

SituationRecommendation
Your main account with a saved card and regular ordersYour own number: Amazon sends codes to the registered number during suspicious logins and password resets, and account recovery gets hard if you cannot reach it.
An account opened for a single orderVirtual number: for short-term use, passing verification is enough, but be sure to add an email address.
You don't want to give Amazon your real numberSign up with a virtual number, then turn on two-step verification with an authenticator app right away so you are not dependent on SMS.
You're opening a seller accountYour own number: seller registration goes through additional checks and Amazon contacts you by phone.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a virtual number for Amazon?

Create a Vernum account, add coins, then pick a country and the Amazon service. A number is assigned instantly; when Amazon asks for a phone number at sign-up or login, enter it and the incoming SMS code shows up in your dashboard.

Will an Amazon account opened with a virtual number keep working?

Yes, once verified the account works normally. The number itself is single-use, though, so if Amazon later sends another code to it for a login from a new device or a transaction it finds unusual, you may not be able to receive it. Right after sign-up, verify your email and enable two-step verification with an authenticator app under Login and Security, so login codes go to that app instead.

What happens if the Amazon code doesn't arrive?

If the number expires before a code arrives, the coins you spent are refunded to your balance automatically. You can retry immediately with a different country or operator; Amazon may never send an SMS to some number ranges at all, and the refund works the same way in that case.

Is using a virtual number for Amazon legal?

Yes. Renting a virtual number and using it to verify an Amazon account is legal; it is a legitimate way to keep your real number private. Amazon's own rules are about how the account is used: opening fake seller accounts, manipulating reviews, or reopening a suspended account violate its terms and can get the account closed.

How long is the number mine?

The number is reserved for you until the Amazon code arrives; once the code shows in your dashboard and verification is done, the number goes back to the pool. If Amazon later sends another code to the same number you may not have access to it, so enable two-step verification with an authenticator app and verify your email right after creating the account.

Does Amazon send OTPs to virtual numbers?

In most cases yes, but Amazon can reject some number ranges. Vernum's country list is ordered by measured success for Amazon; if no code arrives, the coins are refunded and you can try another country from the top of the list.

Can I open an Amazon account without a phone number?

On some marketplaces sign-up can be completed with email alone; on others a mobile number is required. Rent a virtual number from Vernum at the point where Amazon asks for one.

Will the courier call the virtual number for delivery?

The phone on your shipping address is separate from the sign-up number. Enter a number you can actually be reached on for the delivery address; the rented number is released after the code arrives, so the courier cannot reach you there.
